FAQs

  • Permanent makeup or PMU is when a micro-pigmentation is implanted into the skin, either by a hand tool or a machine. Essentially, permanent makeup is a tattoo that resembles makeup to enhance a certain feature of your face, such as beautiful brows or a defined lash line.

    The Benefits:

    *Long-lasting, beautiful results

*Fill-in gaps, thicken and enhance your brows

    *Creates a natural, effortless look

*Forget about meticulously filling-in your brows

*Have stunning brows at all times

    *Increase your confidence

  • What to Consider & Ask Your Aesthetician:

If you are unsure which PMU brow technique is right for you, set-up a permanent makeup consultation to go over all of your options and assess your brow and skin needs.

If you have sensitive skin or are allergic to anything, be sure to ask your aesthetician about the products being used and possibly to spot test beforehand.

If you use retinol, chemical peels, Botox, or take Accutane, please consult with us and do your research beforehand because these products may make your skin more sensitive and disrupt the results.

If you are pregnant or breast feeding, you cannot have these treatments done.

    Pre-Appointment:

Bring in photos to show us your brow or lash line inspiration so we can have an idea of what you want.

Do not wear any makeup the day of appointment.

If you are getting a lash line enhancement, do not wear contacts as it get irritate your eyes.

Do not take aspirin or any blood-thinning medicine the day of your appointment to avoid complications.

    Will my Eyebrows look fake?

NO! Ombré Brows are done using a cosmetic tattooing process and our eyebrow pigmentation unique artistry resulting in soft, natural looking eyebrows. When we implant pigment in the skin, it appears more natural looking than even topically applied cosmetics.

How do you choose which brow technique is best?

We will evaluate your skin type, your brows and what look you are wanting to determine if microblading, ombré brows, or a combo brow is best for you!

How do you choose the shape?

We choose a shape and style together. At the beginning of the procedure, Veronica will draw in a suggested shape for your new brows then you will work together to perfect it according to your preference. Measurements are taken to check symmetry and position before the actual tattooing begins.

How do you choose a color?

We choose a color together by applying small amounts of different colored pigments to the skin near to your brows and selecting the best match for your skin tone, features and personal preference.

  • The Process:

First, we will assess your skin type, your brows or lash line, depending on what service you are getting, and what your ideal outcome is.

We then brow map your brows or outline your lash line to create your ideal shape/look.

We will apply a numbing cream and an anesthetic to the area to lessen or even eliminate pain.

Now we begin the permanent makeup process.

Lastly, we apply soothing cream to the area to help with any discomfort and begin to alleviate any redness.

Say hello to your stunning new look!

    Will it Hurt?

We take every precaution necessary to ensure the micro-pigmentation application is as pain free as possible. A wide range of medical grade anesthetics are used for your comfort. Some clients find the procedure a little uncomfortable, whereas other clients report no discomfort at all. A combination of 2 anesthetics are used, first a topical numbing cream and then a local anesthetic is introduced once the microblading procedure has started. This is topped up regularly during the treatment to keep you comfortable. Similar to our other PMU services.

How long does it take to do?

Investing an hour or two of your time can make you beautiful for years to come. The procedure is split into 2 appointments, which are 6-8 weeks apart to allow for the healing process to complete. The initial procedure will take from 90 to 120 minutes, and your second appointment takes from 60-75 mins .

  • How long is the recovery or healing time?

Many clients can walk right out the door, ready to show off their new brows. Initially stronger in color, your new brows will soften to a natural looking and beautiful color in two to three weeks. Working out or sweating shouldn't be done for about 10-14 day because it affects the healing process.

What will they look like immediately after the procedure?

Your brows may be a little swollen, red and sometimes a bit white. This is all very normal. They will be considerably darker for the first week, before they begin to fade out to a softer color.

    Does it hurt afterwards?

The area can be a little sore for the first few hours and then tender to the touch for a couple of days.

    Will I Need a Follow-Up Appointment?

Yes! All permanent cosmetic procedures need a follow-up appointment to address and issues you may be having or if you may need a touch-up.

    Will they fade?

Your body’s skin changes over time and so will any permanent makeup coloration implanted in to the skins layers. However, this natural fading process takes years and touch ups are easily done as your color fades over time.

How long does the microblading procedure last?

This varies from person to person and depends on whether or not you get the recommended touch up/ second session within 8 weeks of the first session but on average last from 12-18 months after your initial microblading session.

What if I don’t like it?

Although the procedure is considered semi-permanent, these procedures do have flexibility in changing color and shape to some extent. Colors will appear much darker immediately following the procedure but will often soften and lighten during the healing process. The healing time is different for each individual and remember it takes time to adjust to a new look!

Are there any side effects during or after the procedure?

During the procedure there may be some minor bleeding. This will depend on the client. If a person is taking blood thinners on a daily basis, then some slight bleeding may occur. Bruising is rare but if a person is on blood thinners, then bruising can occur. There is usually some tenderness for a few days. The color appears much darker than you may expect for the first six to ten days.

  • Here are some tips on how to prepare for your spray tan

    Shower & Exfoliate

Shower and exfoliate your face and body. Ideally, this should be done a minimum of 6 hours before your spray tan. We recommend our buff me exfoliating mitt.

    Use No Oil Based Exfoliants

It is best to not use oil-based exfoliants or any lotions prior as they can block the tanning process, leaving a residue between your skin and the tanning solution.

    Shave in Advance

For best results, please wax or shave at least one day before your spray tanning session. If using shaving cream, ensure it is rinsed off well leaving no residue.

    Wear Dark Clothes

Wear dark loose fitting clothing after the session if possible. It is best not to wear white for your spray tanning session.

  • What to Expect?

Every SunnaTan experience begins with a brief consultation. Our goal is to ensure your skin looks naturally sun kissed.

Your one-of-a-kind SunnaTan solution is custom-blended for your skin type, tone & preference.

What to Wear During your Tan?

Some clients choose to go nude and some wear underwear or a swimsuit during their spray tan. Men must wear a thong, boxers or shorts. Please note that whatever you wear, you will have tan-lines.

We Take Care of all the Prep!

Your palms, feet, lips, cuticles, and elbows will be carefully prepped with organic barrier lotions and oils to prevent any unnatural colouring. As you are being spray tanned, you’ll be instructed to move into a few easy poses to ensure perfect coverage, following the natural lines and composition of your body.

  • Avoid Sweating

While your tan is developing, avoid any activity that would result in sweating. Depending on the SunnaTan solution you are tanned with, development can range from 3 to 12 hours. Please discuss this with your Airbrush Artist.

    Wear Dark Pyjamas

If sleeping in your tan while it develops, wear loose, dark clothing to bed. The bronzer may rub off on your bedding and clothing, however, nothing will stain. Maximum spray tan results can be expected 24 hours after your tan.

    Do Not Shower

SunnaTan offers 2 types of spray solutions. Discuss shower times with your airbrush artist. While your tan develops, scrub your palms only when washing your hands. Do not rest your fingertips on your face or body, and limit skin-to-skin physical contact with others to avoid colour transfer.

    Pat Skin Dry

Pat your skin dry after showering and avoid any excessive rubbing with your towel.

    Shave with a new razor

You can still shave while you have a tan; however, we do not recommend doing it daily. Always use a new razor and use a hydrating natural oil or cleanser to act as a buffer between the razor and your skin.

    Use Safe Body Wash

Use mild hydrating body wash for the duration of your tan. Do not use soaps and body wash with synthetic fragrances.

    Don't Spray On Skin

Spray perfume on your clothes, rather than directly onto your skin. Face cleansers and moisturizers containing anti-aging or anti-acne active ingredients such as salicylic acid, AHA's and/ or benzoyl peroxide are not recommended.

    Moisturize Daily

Moisturize twice a day with sunless tan friendly products that are alcohol & synthetic fragrance free. Use SunnaTan skin care products that are specifically designed to help extend the life of your spray tan.

    Use Sunscreen

Your spray tan tan does not protect you from the sun. Please use a sunscreen formulated to hydrate the skin.

    Use Tanning Extenders

Use SunnaTan easy to use sunless tanning extenders to prolong the length of your tan, or use them on their own for a DIY glow.

    Use Exfoliating Mitt

When your tan is beginning to fade, use our SunnaTan Exfoliating Mitt to help even out your skin tone and prep for your next airbrush tan.

  • 1. Keep your hair extensions clean and untangled by taking time to care for them every day.

    2. Do not comb or brush your hair extensions when they are wet.

    3. Never sleep with wet hair extensions. Always make sure the hair is dry and pulled up or braided to keep the hair from tangling at night.

    4. Brush the extensions with a hair extension brush several times a day. Be sure to brush properly, holding the roots to prevent pulling on the bonds or wefts.

    5. Use a high quality sulphate free shampoo and conditioner to keep the tabs from slipping and the hair extensions in good condition.

    6. Never lighten the hair extensions. If you want to colour hair extensions only go within 2 shades darker.

    7. When using heat tools be sure to use a heat protection spray. The more heat tools you use heat on your hair, the shorter the life-span of the hair extensions.

    9. Exercising with Philocaly Hair extensions will not damage your extensions.

    10. Avoid excessive chlorine exposure as it can dry out and damage the hair extensions. Occasional chlorine exposure is okay.

    11. When using conditioner, condition from mid-shaft to ends only. Do not apply conditioner to your scalp when wearing hair extensions.

    12. Hair Extensions are real human hair and will get split ends just like your hair does. Trim those ends, ladies!

    13. Every 8-10 weeks, your hair extensions will need to be reapplied to move the bonds/wefts closer to the scalp and to keep your hair healthy.

  • WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a 10 gauge medical-grade scalpel to gently remove the layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

    WHO CAN HAVE DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout and men with heavy facial hair. If you have active acne there are other treatments available that would be more beneficial, and it is necessary to wait until breakouts are healed before trying this treatment. As always, also discuss any allergies or skin sensitivities before starting a treatment. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.

HOW IS A DERMAPLANING DIFFERENT FROM A PEEL?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment and you will not peel or visibly shed skin after your service, while Peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following a service. Dermaplaning provides a good alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY SERVICE?

Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin. Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to close a shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.

    HOW LONG IS THE TREATMENT?

    45-60 minutes.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER MY SERVICE?

You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediate removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY SKIN AFTER A DERMAPLANING SERVICE?

After a Dermaplaning treatment your skin needs time to heal and restore. Treat the skin gently, using only hands to cleanse for at least 2 days and wearing sunscreen every day.

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER AND DARKER?

No, dermaplaning will not alter your natural hair growth. As we remove the vellus hair we are cutting it at the thickest part of the hair follicle so it may appear thicker or darker for a brief period of time. However, this perceived difference is cosmetic and most clients do not notice.

    RECOMMENDED COURSE FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS?

Dermaplaning removes 21 days worth of dead skin cells, so it’s best to allow the skin to complete its rejuvenation cycle before your next treatment.
